July 5 the Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable on the law “On Mandatory Health Insurance: New Prospects or New Problems?”

The discussion was devoted to the law on mandatory health insurance, which gave rise to heated debates within the medical community. The first reading of the law drafted by the Ministry of Social Development of the Russian Federation is scheduled for July 7, 2010.

The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable entitled “Sustainable Development of Municipal Entities and a Local Government: Patterns of Cooperation between Theoretical and Practical Experts”.

The agenda comprised the following issues:

- creation of online communities for theoretical and practical experts specializing in various industries http://solex-un.ru/

- a project of an online community aimed at theoretical and practical experts specializing in sustainable development of municipal entities and in a local government;

The Institute of Contemporary Development conducted a strategic cession aimed at development of a communication platform for Russia’s Innovation Center Skolkovo. The event was attended by specialists from the related industries.

The Institute of Contemporary Development held a workshop entitled “Russia-NATO Relationship: Prospects of Transformation”. The event organized jointly with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) gathered experts from Russia, the U.S. and Europe.

The discussion focused on the expansion of cooperation between Russia and The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, on ways to improve the cooperation and to enhance the existing dialogue etc. The experts also analyzed the pattern of development of NATO’s New Strategic Concept, which is to be completed in November.

As a result of the discussion, INSOR and IISS have agreed to continue cooperation intended to pave the way for a positive transformation of the Russia-NATO relationship.

The Institute of Contemporary Development held a roundtable discussion “Global Energy Market: Lessons of the Crisis and Development Prospects”. The Committee on Energy Policy and Energy Efficiency of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) was a co-organizer of the event.

The roundtable discussion was attended by representatives of the business community, the executive power, and the leading research institutes specializing in the energy sector.

The Institute of Contemporary Development (INSOR) held a roundtable entitled  "Social Projects: Enhancement of Management Patterns". Participants of the event exchanged opinions on development of patterns of educational and healthcare management, and focused on the preliminary results of the relevant programs.

In his opening speech INSOR Management Chairman Igor Yurgens noted that the social sector could serve as the key ground for the country's integral modernization, and that a lack of activity in this sector could significantly affect our modernization prospects. After that Deputy Minister of Education and Science Vladimir Miklushevsky, who briefed the audience on the activities in the field pursued by the Ministry.

The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable “Modernization in Russia. To be or not to be?” The event was organized by the national social movement “Go Russia!”

The roundtable was chaired by Gennady Gudkov, Deputy Head of the Duma Security Committee. Among the speakers were Head of Yabloko political party Sergei Mitrokhin, member of the federal political council of the party the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin, Chairman of the social movement Russia's Choice Vladimir Ryzhkov, Member of the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship Valery Zubov, a renowned civil and human rights lawyer Leonid Olshansky etc.

June 1, 2010 the Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a presentation of the report “Republics of the North Caucasus: Efficiency and Consolidation of Power”.

The event was organized by the Institute of Contemporary Development and the Center for Political Technologies.

The report presented by Rostislav Turovsky, Head of the Department of Regional Surveys at the Center for Political Technologies, focused on the latest efforts taken by authorities of all North Caucasian republics with the aim to foster socio-economic and political development of their regions.

May 29 Yurmala (Latvia) hosted a panel discussion “Regional Systems of Global Security” in anticipation of the International Conference Yaroslavl 2010.

The event chaired by Igor Yurgens served as a platform for a presentation of the upcoming International Conference Yaroslavl 2010. The speakers suggested topics for the panel discussion paying the major attention to planning of interpanel meetings on the European security, which is scheduled for the second day of the Conference.

The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable on "Development of Private-Public Partnership in Russia's Regions (based on experience of the Central Federal District) or How to Boost Efficiency of the PPP".

The event focused on the following topics:

• Key drivers of infrastructural development and modernization (based on the regional PPP patterns and the problems affecting their efficiency);

• Key recommendations to federal authorities and regional administrations responsible for modernization of Russia's infrastructure and implementation of regional infrastructure projects respectively;
